AFRIKA Tikkun, one of Mzansi’s leading non-profit organisations, celebrates 30 years at the Wings of Life Centre in Diepsloot West
The foundation has transformed kids’ lives across Mzansi. It celebrates the direct impact of its programmes on the youth and the community.
Afrika Tikkun ensures kids have access to education, skills development, healthcare, and nutritional support.
The organisation emphasises that basic human rights are available to everyone.
The event began with a tour of Green Acres farm, where the farm’s manager Ryan Geere explained their activities
“Our farm runs off-grid, and we use renewable solar energy. We recycle our water and practice water harvesting. Our food is of high quality and tastes nice because we use correct pesticides, our chickens are the best, and we provide retailers with stock.” he said.
The Wings of Life Centre in Diepsloot West, it runs various programmes, including an Early Childhood Development (ECD) space for kids aged two to six and the Child and Youth Development Centre, which features the Ignite programme.
Leader of the Child and Youth Development Programme Tshepo Brand told <em>Daily Sun </em>the NGO aims to diversify education.
“We teach kids numeracy, literacy and talent. We like to invite a psychologist to test their minds so we can understand their background. We develop young people from cradle to career because education is a rush against time. Our methods brought us 4,52% distinctions from 4,59% kids in matric and 61 % bachelor pass in 2024,” he said.
Principal, Jenifer Leimela, who is also a teacher, expressed her joy over the school’s achievements.
“Kids learn in a playful way to make learning easy. We also accommodate kids with disabilities, and our doors are open to the community,” she said.
Partnership executive Ntlaleng Nkopane said the plan is to achieve more partnerships.
“We are hoping for more investors in the future. We want to strengthen our relationship with those already working with us. We live in tough economic times, so we need to work together,” she said.
